Checklist and recommendations for your d.3 system environment

This article provides you with a brief summary of important aspects to help you prepare for the first installation of the d.velop software.

During the installation, you should create documentation to note, for example, the individual configuration steps, directories, passwords and user names for service users for the various d.3 and d.velop services.

Hardware for application and file server

You install the d.velop server software on the application server. The task of the application server is to process all client-side queries. In addition to the application server, you require a storage location for the documents stored in d.velop documents. You also require a database for managing the related data records and other items.

You generally use a separate file server, as well as a database server. The minimum requirements are described in the respective sections. It is also possible to operate the file storage system and/or database on the application server (depending on the scope of the installation or the existing system landscape). In this case, we recommend cumulating the minimum requirements of the three servers.

For more information, see Preparing the application server and Preparing the file server.

Domain web server certificate

To call web pages (e.g. the d.velop documents web client) via a secure connection, you require a valid and signed SSL certificate. You can use an existing domain-wide SSL certificate for your application server.

For more information, see our Secure connections via HTTPS e-learning course.

Default ports

For information about default ports, see Opening default ports (short summary).

Virus scanners

Security comes first. You must follow your organization’s security guidelines. However, virus scanners may affect performance. Nevertheless, you can consult the relevant experts in your organization to check whether you can exclude individual processes, directories or file types from the virus scan.
